Creating a site ecosystem for the world's premier design school
In 2019 I had the opportunity to work on the redesign of the Spotify for Artists site. I worked with a team to improve the design system, especially with the site content, and reduce areas of friction in key areas like help center and the claim profile flow.
I was the lead experience strategist, creating communicating and documenting the work.
RISD's old site lacked the integrity and elevation needed for a design institute of their stature. Additionally, their site system comprised of over 100 ungoverned, uncentralized sites that lacked consistency and strategy.
I audited the 100+ RISD sites to determine the source of the problem, and what the future needs of the site ecosystem were. It turned out that while there was one site, RISD.edu that catered to their prospects, all other sites filled in the gap of all the other audiences that RISD needed to speak to, like current students, employees, and Alumni. Additionally, the dated and inflexible Webhook CMS stifled the editors' creativity, and led them to other front-end systems like squarespace and wordpress.
My team devised a 4-phase rollout of a multi-destination site system that could scale with RISD for the future, and provided a storytelling toolkit flexible enough for all creatives, but lean and governed for RISD.
I created low-fidelity journeys capable of depicting the flexibility of the site, and showing how itwould tell key story. this foundational work was how the executive leadership team at RISD was able to understand and agree to the future vision for RISD.
The new site was built on the product requirements my team of 5 created together. In 2022, the new site launched with a fresh new look and feel, and the system that we created for the back-end editors, and end-users.
